Your Board of Directors is excited to welcome you to our first in-person meeting since January 16, 2020!

Please be assured that the enVision Hotel and Conference Center is following all State, Local and Federal guidelines around COVID 19 protocols. We are maintaining smaller tables spaced apart, and a mask advisory is in effect.

MAPT will continue to monitor the COVID 19 situation and may make the call to conduct a remote Zoom meeting if necessary, on January 26th at 9:00 AM, the Zoom link will be sent to registered participants.

If MAPT has to cancel for a State Emergency due to weather the meeting will be re-scheduled for March 23, 2022.

 

PROGRAM INFORMATION

Strategies & Interventions for Managing Challenging Student Behaviors on the School Bus

We are excited to welcome Ms. Trish Costa, MS LMHC/School Adjustment Counselor.  She has worked for the LABBB Collaborative for the past 32 years.  She specializes in counseling services, crisis intervention and psychoeducational training.  Trish has extensive experience working with students with various challenges including PTSD/trauma, mood disorder, ADHD, psychotic disorders, reactive detachment disorder and autism. Trish uses a variety of modalities and interventions based on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.  She also provides program wide staff education and training and consult services as a liaison among school, family and community resources.

Transporting individuals with disabilities is a daily challenge. One area that requires increased attention and skill is discipline or behavioral management when students present with challenging/disruptive behaviors. This presentation will cover the following topics:

  • Understanding disabilities and how they may present cognitively, socially, emotionally and behaviorally.
  • Understanding behavior and misbehavior
  • Setting the tone.
    • Van/bus rules and expectations
  • Pro-active collaboration/communication with school programs and staff.
  • Strategies and interventions to prevent and manage challenging behaviors.
  • Duty to warn.
    • Role of a mandated reporter.
  • Scenarios to discuss and learn from
  • Self-care
