Every state in the country has a law making it illegal to pass school bus when the lights are flashing.  Far too many drivers choose to ignore this law.  What can we do better?  Please join us in welcoming, Maria Scheri, a Peabody mom and founder of S.T.O.P the Operator from Passing - a Massachusetts safety initiative working to reduce the number of illegal school bus passing violations, to hear what she is doing to make our students safer.

S.T.O.P was created in September of 2022 when Ms. Scheri recognized the immediate need for a public awareness school zone safety campaign after witnessing irresponsible driving behavior in her community.  Most notably, Ms. Scheri facilitated the bus stop-arm camera program between Peabody and BusPatrol to capture illegal school bus passing violations. The program's initial data announcement received extensive media coverage. Ms. Scheri and her S.T.O.P initiative are gaining more and more support as she continues to raise awareness and advocate for safer school bus stops.

TRANSPORTATION ROUNDTABLE Following this presentation, we will have guided small group discussion on issues facing school transportation today, which include special education transportation, 7D, McKinney Vento, driver shortage, driver training, policies, and procedures.  Be sure to join us and share your voice!
